BEST SIX 2004

2004 saw many new buyers/collectors, and prices definitely increased. We bought at the same pace, but we chose more carefully, and spent more on average per corkscrew.
Going back to my country of birth, this was a British Best Six.

HOLBORN LEVER (pat. 1885)
A sought-after and rare corkscrew, the Holborn lever is marked "Patent 6783".

MABSON (pat. 1869)
Not a common corkscrew, this variant of Mabson IV is marked "T. Dowler Manufacturer Birmingham" on the inside button and has a bladed worm.

HULL LEVER (pat. 1864)
The highly recognizable Charles Hull Royal Club Lever - a king among corkscrews. It has a truly beautiful design.

THOMASON-TYPE (pat. 1802)
This design was based on the Thomason II, and it was much copied by other manufacturers when the patent expired. This one is marked "R.H. HARRIS BIRMINGHAM".

LONDON RACK (pat. 1855)
This based on the later form of Lund's London Rack. This one is simply marked "JH&S" - presumably for James Heeley and Sons.

Henshall-type (pat. 1795)
A nice example of a Henshall-type marked "Wilmot & Roberts Patent" on the button.
